Merry Christmas! What Can I Do For You?
Hey all, you will most likely be reading this on Christmas day, or afterwards if you don’t happen to check on the day! So to all of you, a very merry christmas! Seeing as this is the giving time of year, I wanted to try and give something to you guys. Now normally I do this is the form of ideas and ways to make money online, but after a comment left in my last post, I’ve decided to do some research into blogging tools…
The Magic Of Finding Blogs To Comment On
Now, a good way to market the fact you have a blog is by leaving comments on other peoples blogs. This hopefully gains a visit from the blogger whose blog you have posted on, and possibly more visits from anyone that reads the comments. However, finding these blogs is pretty difficult if you don’t know how to do it, or if you are unfamiliar with any other blogs of your type. I personally have found all my blogs by following comment after comment on other blogs that I ‘knew about’. Using this method you can find some good blogs – but they might not be exactly what you need. Well, what if there was an exact way to search google, so that it would show you all the blogs on the topic that you wanted, along with any back links being ‘dofollow’? What if you could even specify to find blogs that currently have no comments on their posts? Well…I actually stumbled across the method.
For The Love Of Commentators – My Plugin
Well as you might know from yesterdays post, I created a nice little plugin. However, I found there was a niggling little issue with it which screwed up the home page. I managed to find what it was that was going wrong (to do with database access), and now it is all fixed, and ready to be used! If you’d like to know more about the plugin, check out yesterdays’ post, which describes exactly what it does. If you simply want to download it, you can do so here.
To view the plugin (and its output), head to the settings part of your wordpress admin panel, and choose ‘FTLO Commentators’.
Hope you guys get some use out of this, and let me know what improvements you might like to see!

A Plugin For All, And For All A Good Night
Hey all, its Monday again, which means a long week of work. Some of you luckier ones may be on your holidays, whereas I am stuck in the office at work, with actually very little to do! With my bosses away I have had to take on dribs and drabs of work…which ultimately has led to me developing a little plugin for wordpress! For those of you who have read my blog before, its a little bit like the one I had discussed previously, but not as ‘fancy’. It’s taken me most of the day to write it (who knew how fiddly it all could get), but I offer it for you who wish to use it! It is still in the early stages, but preliminary tests show that it is working at its ‘basic’ level.
Stop Yammering On – What Is It?
Well, basically its a plugin which allows you to see all of the people who have commented on your blog so far, along with how many times the individual has posted and the different names (or ‘aliases’) they have used when commenting on your site. I developed it because I was finding it hard to keep track of who had posted a comment on my blog, and when I wanted to visit those sites to say thank-you (or just check on what others had written), I had to look around to find them. This plugin allows you to display them in a (somewhat) tidy fashion in your actual admin console.
The Best Laid Plans of Mice And Bloggers
Yes, it’s me, I’m not dead. Promise. If you hadn’t of read in my little ‘news update’ tab, I have been without Internet now for almost 10 days. It’s a pretty long time, and I have had a lot of time to think about some new projects to get underway, so it wasn’t all in vain. Now I just have to try and claw back my loyal readers’ respect! So let’s start by addressing some things I’ve promised and not delivered (and why) – and things to come for the future of this blog (which I’m not selling, despite the recent trend. Kudos to those who know what I’m talking about).
The Film Cell Frame
Now I know I promised you guys pictures of the finished product I described in my last post (before I went off the grid), and it is all made…I just haven’t brought in the picture of it to work with me today. However, tonight I will get the pictures off of my phone, and put them on a USB drive to upload tomorrow. The results are quite interesting, so I think you’ll be pleased to see what I’ve come up with, and how much it cost me…
My Wordpress Plugin Idea
So I came up with a wordpress plugin idea the other day, which I mentioned in a previous post. So far the work on it hasn’t been going to plan (namely as the key component isn’t compatible over different versions of PHP, which drives me insane), but there is still a part of me that wishes to make it. There is a distinct advantage to having it, but at the same time I think I might be doing work that has already been done – so I wanted to share with you all my plugin idea, and see if it struck a chord with any of you!
Get Respect With Your Visitors
After the success of my post ‘get respect with your blog comment‘, I thought I might expand on the issue a little bit, and talk about another issue of ‘respect’. I have noticed this slowly creeping up on a lot of bloggers - a lot of them are ignoring the fact, and not giving respect to their visitors!
Now what do I mean by this? Well, when you own and operate a blog, you are lucky enough to be visited by people who are interested in what you have to say, and if they particularly like something you have said they might leave a comment on your blog – possibly thanking you for the advice, maybe even offering their own! A lot of bloggers leave it at that – just posting up their thoughts and admiring the comments left to them by their ‘fans’. However what they are doing is showing these people a lot of disrespect, and quite a few bloggers end up losing readers and commentators because of this reason. I have personal experience of this - I used to visit and post on a blog very frequently, but had no response from the creator of the blog. Since then, I have stopped commentating on it, and his site has slowly shrunk in the amount of followers that he had. So how do we prevent this? Well, there are a couple of ways of solidifying yourself some good readers, as well as making some great friends.
How CommentLuv Can Help Find Hackers
So yesterday I was catching up with what was going around on the various blogs I visit, trying out a few new ones to see how they fit and feel, when I noticed that I was having a problem with comment-luv. Now the problem wasn’t on my site, but rather it was an error when I was attempting to leave comments on others websites – simply put, I was receiving an ‘XML error’ instead of comment-luv displaying my latest post!
XML error: Invalid document end at line 261, column 1
Obviously me being the loving person that I am, and not being just out for the links (I am such an angel), I continued posting and thought of it as just a glitch…oh how wrong I was…
How To Overcome Distractions
I think I’ve set a new record with my posting – 4 days without a new post! Apologies to all, originally I had a post planned for Friday that I was to write up while at work (obviously during my break, haha), however as the day began to end, I got more work given to me – so by the time it came to leave, I had no post to show! Then on arriving home, it turned out my building decided to implement a new ‘gated community’ feature as of that day, and my girlfriend was unable to park anywhere. So I spent most of the night chasing down car parks looking for someway of making her car safe – which kinda killed my night.
Then the weekend came, and as I always do on the weekends, I spent time with my girlfriend. We had a lovely day, and when I had some time spare, I played on the new PS3 release Mirrors Edge. Playing the game saw me into the evening and then my girlfriend returned, and we caught up on some TV shows. Today has been very much similar, spending time with my girlfriend and playing Mirrors Edge.
So why am I telling you all this? Well while all this was happening, something in my brain was screaming at me…
Yet Another Amazing Idea
After the success of revealing an all so amazing idea, I thought I would share with you all another potential money making idea I had. Now this is an actual idea with potential, or at least a lot more potential than my other idea, haha.
So why am I revealing it here? Well, a number of reasons. Basically I get ideas to generate money online all the time, yet I rarely have the time to actually go ahead with any of them, and some of them are quite big investments that would take me a long while. So by sharing them with you I may be able to help one of you guys start up something, or even start a joint venture! Also, after initially thinking it hasn’t been done, I accidentally stumbled across a site which is very similar to my idea, so the ‘unique’ potential has already flown out the window. It could be I haven’t searched hard enough and there are already sites offering this without me knowing – if that’s the case please leave me a comment letting me know! Another reason is the fact that I want you guys to come away with good information, and I don’t want this to be a blog with lots of ’secrets’, where I give you crap and keep the ‘good’ techniques / ideas to myself.
Anyway, enough with the tension, lets get to the actual idea:
