Saturday News UpdateSaturday, November 22nd |
It’s been a while since I have a done a kind-of ‘update’ post, as I have been trying to keep my posts ‘on-track’ as much as possible. However there is a main reason I feel I have to do this type of post now, and that’s because of my hosting company.
I would like to apologise to anyone who might have encountered errors on my website recently – my hosting company has been shocking in terms of their service as of late. Every morning when I get up I check the site (if I can) to make sure that everything is working fine and if it isn’t I immediately head over their website to talk to their 24-hour support. The support is normally good, but as of late I’ve been getting to know them more and more, as I have had to be speaking to them every, single, day. Now I wouldn’t mind if it was even once a week, but its just not really acceptable is it? Some of things that have happened you would never put up with…
I have had hacking attempts on the site, I have had posting issues, and not to mention site down time – I logged on today only to find that they had removed my pre-defined settings which did not allow my posts to be viewed. Now on further speaking with them, they are asking me to change my password as apparently there have bee a group of hackers running scripts against their webservers to try and get passwords for websites! Great security on that part no?
So most likely I will be seeking new hosting in the very near future, which should mean that the site shouldn’t experience as many problems as it has done in the past few weeks. One of my friends has recently set up his own hosting machine, so I might try to get some hosting with him if possible! Otherwise I might be taking on suggestions, or just moving everything over to my hostgator account!
On a positive note, there should be a few ‘vanity’ changes to the site and its design, although I can’t be certain that it’ll be done for the end of the month, its what I am aiming for. Also, I am in the progress of thinking up a Christmas competition for you all, which promises to be fun and rewarding!
I have also begun work on a wordpress plugin that I believe will show benefit to the way that you blog. If anyone is interested in beta testing the plugin, let me know either via email (danives at btopenworld dot com) or leave a comment with the words ‘I want that plugin man’ and I’ll hit you up with an email. I’m purposely not saying what the plugin is yet in case the idea is taken from me – I’m pretty sure it doesn’t exist but I need to be sure!
So there it is, I will get back on track by posting something informative for you guys tomorrow – if there is anything you’d like to see talked about as well, please let me know and I will happily research the subject and report back to you on it. Thanks for reading racers, love you all!!
Dan
(P.S. Just on a bragging side note, I took my mother to Eddie Izzard live last night, and she managed to swing it without my knowledge so we actually got to meet him backstage! How cool!! </brag>)

Looks like your host sucks and I hope you have better luck with the next one. As for the plugin, well if you can promise me it won;t put my blog in self destruct mode, the what the heck, ‘I want that plugin man’

Yeah it kinda does – I’m hoping that my friend will have his hosting fully set-up by the time it comes to renew. Either that or I’ll move over to hostgator.
Lol, it won’t do, as I will be doing the majority of the testing myself, but I will consider you as first candidate Sire! It’s more so that I can see if you get any use out of it, and what improvements I could make.

Good luck with the wordpress plugin that you are cooking. As much as I would love to be a beta tester, I would be away for an out of town work-related trip for the next three weeks.

Not sure if you were reading at the time, Dan, but back in September I was having major problems with my host. Things are pretty good now, but it really stinks when one’s host is messing up. And hackers,… ugh! Not sure who you’re using, but I hope you find someone you trust. HostGator has pretty good word of mouth, from what I’ve heard.
